I don’t know what it is, but I want the badges. I don’t even know what some of them are (better explanation needed Listia) but I want them.
Using a little bit of game theory in your business or process can really help. People like to be things that they normally can’t. Give someone a clear easy, slightly fun way to earn 10 badges and they will do it.
Another company that has used this to great success is foursquare.
They have used the game edge to become quite successful in the more and more crowded field of location aware social networks.
Also I really like how Listia makes it super simple to share a pre-supplied affiliate link. When you ask someone to share you product or idea with their friends, you are asking a lot. Make it as simple as possible.
PS if you want to sign up, here’s my link. 🙂
Listia is like the free section of Craigslist on steroids. For example you want to give away a DVD you don’t want. On Craigslist, you put out the ad, a bunch of people respond, you don’t know who really wants it and will show up or send money to ship. With Listia, you just put up the ad, for free, people bid credits, and when someone wins the free thing, you get the credits bid. Basically by putting a price on "free" natural market forces work to make sure the person who wants it the most, gets it.
